Domaine Didier Dagueneau Blanc Fumé de Pouilly 2009 $75
The apple has not fallen far from the tree. After the untimely death of his father, Didier, Louis-Benjamin has followed his father's footsteps not just in profession, but in complete and utter capability of making the world's best Sauvignon Blancs.
St. Andelain is the village in the Loire Valley where the vineyards lay, mostly hillside. They are located just outside of Pouilly-sur-Loire. The wines are intense in mineral, powerful, and have a pureness of fruit. They can age gracefully for decades, especially the greater cuvées made from older vines. The Blanc Fumé de Pouilly pulls no punches. Though made from younger vines, it is still excellent and completely representative of the wines of the Domaine.
Excellent with salmon, peas, shallots and a touch cream. These are without a doubt my favorite Sauvingons made. Period.
Maxi-Dôme Goat Auvergne, France $40 per pound
From the exclusive Laiterie Antoine Garmy, we are lucky to be able to carry his Maxi-Dôme. Shaped like its name suggests, it's an excellent blooming rind soft-ripening goat cheese from the village of Orleat in the center of France. The cheese is fresh and crumbly in its youth, and will age into something a bit more gooey. This rare goat is the perfect cheese for a spring day, served with a few glasses of Domaine Dagueneau, of course!
Something Sweet... Sqirl Mandarinquat & Yuzu $15
That's right -- a hybrid of Mandarin Oranges and Kumquats topped with a bit of Yuzu. The perfect trifecta of citrus flavors to complement your wine and cheese afternoon.
